- Go to a Lathe and refine the Pine that Hamblin gave you into 2 Softwood Beams.

- Click on one of the nearby lathes and refine the 2 Pines he gave you into 2 Softwood Beams.
- Return to Hamblin and show him the 2 Softwood Beams.
- This ends the 1st lesson and you get your reward.
- Talk to him again and he will start your next lesson: Hamblin's Woodcrafting Lessons: Salves.
